A Certificate or Licence? What's right for you?
We’ll work with you to ensure your learning path matches the outcomes you desire with your flying. Not everyone wants to fly a Boeing 787, and everyone’s flying journey is different so we offer individually customised training plans to help you achieve your goals.
As both a Recreational Aviation and General Aviation training school, we are able to offer students various Licence and Certificate options:
Recreational Pilot’s Certificate.
Learning to fly is an exciting journey. If flying for fun is your end goal, then A Recreational Pilot’s certificate could be right for you. From your Trial Introductory Flight (TIF) to your first landing, your first solo, passing your theory exams, learning to navigate, and gaining your pilot certificate. Imagine the excitement of taking a friend or loved one with you as a passenger for the first time.
Minimum requirements:
- Book a Trial Introductory Flight (TIF)
- Get a 3-month FREE membership with RA Aus
- Start flying lessons and work towards achieving your first solo flight
- Complete the required Recreational Pilot Certificate exams, training as required and pass a flight test
Recreational Pilot’s Licence.
Training for your Recreational Pilot’s Licence (RPL) is the first step towards gaining your Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL). Licences are issued by CASA.
You’ll learn the basics of how to fly an aircraft and once you have shown proficiency, you will take to the skies for your first solo.
Minimum requirements:
- 16 years of age
- Hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
- Pass the required medical prior to first solo
- Pass english language proficiency test
- Pass four theory exams and flight test
Private Pilot’s Licence
Once you have gained your RPL, the next step is to work towards completing your PPL.
You will learn how to navigate cross-country, communicate with air traffic control and understand weather conditions. Once you obtain your PPL, this licence allows you to fly anywhere in Australia in daylight, visual conditions.
Minimum requirements:
- 17 years of age
- Complete the required navigational training exercises
- Pass PPL theory exam and flight test
Commercial Pilot’s Licence
The Commercial Pilot Licence is the basis for a career in aviation. This licence allows you to seek employment in general aviation and airlines. Often additional Ratings & Endorsements will be required, and Great Southern Flying School offers an extensive range, details of which can be found here.
Minimum requirements:
- 18 years of age
- Pass Class 1 medical examination
- Pass all seven CPL theory exams
- Pass CPL flight test
- 200 hours aeronautical experience and meet CASA requirements
